Total package advantage for international customers
Basic Pharma works with a team of now 250 people on the production and development of medicines.
"We not only have a production department, but also large departments for the development of new medicines," says director Bob Kool. "Since its foundation in 2003 we have grown enormously and we have been supplying our services and products in more than 25 countries." Mandy Meekels-Steinbusch takes us to the beating heart of Basic Pharma: the development department for medicines. "Basic Pharma is actually not very well known in the Western Mining Region and that is a pity. Many products that we make for our customers can be found in the supermarkets, the drugsters and pharmacies. Think of Neuspray against a cold, but also medicines for allergies." Both local companies and international multinationals know how to find Basic Pharma. “We can support customers in making a formula or a medicine. We then also select a package, such as a tube or a syringe and we then make it in our factory. That is the big advantage of basic pharma. We deliver a total package and services that the customer can get started immediately.
Medications of future
One of the recent additions to the services of Basic Pharma is the development of medicines based on proteins. These proteins are made by yeasts and bacteria that grow in bioreactors. "These proteins are then purified so that they can be safely administered to patients," says Ralph Bosmans. "These biotechnological products are also called the medicines of the future. This allows us to better respond to the wishes of our customers. Because we offer the development of new medicines under one roof, we can quickly market the medicines of the future."
