More than 50,000 installations worldwide
Hato Agricultural Lighting is the world leader in its industry. The family business innovates continuously and has thousands of installations in operation worldwide.
Hato started in 1974, says CEO Max Obers. "Everything we do at Hato with our 200 employees is aimed at increasing animal welfare and animal performance with the help of lighting. So we know exactly how we can change an animal's behavior within seconds when we adjust the lighting. And we respond to that. So we sell the lamps, we also produce the lamps ourselves, but we also look at how that lighting can have an impact on the welfare and performance of animals. And that is really how we distinguish ourselves. So we are not in the competition to sell a lamp, but we really look along with our customers to see how we can improve the performance and welfare of the animals and animal stables.”
New industries
Hato is active in more than 50 countries around the world. “I think we currently have over 50,000 installations worldwide,” says Obers. "If you look at our position in the market, we are currently the world leader. In terms of innovation and knowledge, we are seen as a leader in the industry, mainly in the poultry sector. And for us, fish and cows are somewhat newer industries in which we are now investing a lot in order to make an impact there in the future. So if we look to the future, we are very busy looking at how we can detect certain things in a stable with sensors and automatically adjust the lighting on that basis. So if you, for example, If you see that there are a lot of aggressive chickens and a lot of pecking in the stable, we can actually stop that aggressiveness immediately by changing the light. So as soon as you can monitor it, we can respond to it with lighting. And there are many examples that we can immediately adjust the lighting based on behavior that we can see with cameras or sensors.
